Hello, blisters
Before dinner I took a long walk through the neighborhood. While the roads are (mostly) paved, Kampala was built on red clay, so there is dust everywhere. I stepped in a puddle and walked out of it with my feet looking like pottery. I managed to find the Korean, Nigerian, and German embassies. Of course everything is heavily guarded and surrounded by barbed wire. I’m not sure I have ever seen such a large concentration of semiautomatic weapons. The highlight of the trip was when a hair dresser flagged me down and asked me for a job.
Because Uganda is equatorial, the sun rises and sets at 7:00. Apparently the equator is 1 hour away from Kampala, and is really nothing more than a photo opp. Since going out at night is ill advised, I’m probably going to blog a lot. It takes about 15 minutes to upload a photograph (does anyone remember dial-up?), so they won’t be a plentiful as I hoped.
Here is a picture of me playing in my mosquito net and of one of my new little lizard friends. They crawl underneath the door at night. How adorable are they?!xo...G.

Glad you made it there ok. The lizard's feet make me think it's a gecko. Did it walk up walls?

If I leave my address, can you send a shipment of semi-automatic rifles? My last gunrunner was kneecapped and I got customas, youknowwhatImsayin'?
A lizard. Send me a lizard too.
Hi Gabe,
Good to hear from you but your starting to scare me with guns and the jail type structure you have to lock yourself in. Be careful

I'm fairly certain it is a house gecko-- I photographed it on the ceiling. Right now it is on the front porch making a racket...
So how should I fix up the attic? :) You think they would like tapestries and an old hookah type thing? I think Shiva is missing you incredibly because last night she must have woke me up around 4 in the morning and started putting herself under my hand as in a way to make me pet her for like an hour. other than that, i think i am holding the fort down fairly well. i agree with your dad, the prison like situation is making me a bit nervous, but it sounds like you are having an incredible once in a lifetime experience, so make sure you appreciate every moment! love ya-jules
Hi Gabrielle,
Talked to Dan tonight about spending time with Shiva this weekend and he told me he didn't have the internet.I will print this weekends messages and get them to him.You are a terrific writer and sound very up which helps with all my worries and concerns
Love Dad
How's the lizard doing? Just like the 80's when we were Lizard Central. Your weather is better than ours .... it's hot here! Stay safe.
Love you ..... Mom
